Fears of a Fat Person

Disclaimer: This is not an exhaustive list, but a few of the most common fears I held at my biggest.

1) Fear of Restaurant Booths - This is the fear of not fitting into the booth at a restaurant.
To avoid the shame of asking to relocate to a table or stuffing themselves uncomfortably into the booth for the duration of the meal - suffering from physical discomfort and having a lack of oxygen, a bigger person will arrive early to request or ensure a table is provided.
2) Fear of “I’ll pick you up” – This is the fear of not fitting into another person’s vehicle.
To avoid the shame of not fitting into another person’s vehicle properly or not being able to properly buckle their safety belt (because they do not have an extension), a bigger person will always offer to drive or come-up with an excuse to meet at the designated location.
3) Fear of Being Late – This is the fear of arriving too late and being disheveled.
To avoid the shame of looking sweaty, hot , or disheveled due to the possibility of not getting a prime parking spot near the door (work, church, or restaurant), having a flushed face or sweating from walking too far from the poor parking spot (this is much worse in the warmer months), or having a disheveled looking appearance from the effort of getting inside of the building, a bigger person will arrive early enough to ensure park in a prime spot, leisurely stroll into the building, and adjust themselves before another human sees them.  Also, this can play into the first fear we discussed.
4) Fear of Babies – This is the fear of pictures with babies.
To avoid looking like a mountain in comparison to a baby, the bigger person will most likely refrain from taking pictures with babies. Truth be told, if it would not offend someone they loved, a bigger person might not even let another human see them holding a baby, at all.
5) Fear of Children – This is the fear of children’s honesty.
To avoid the hurtful honest truth of how large the bigger person is in the eyes of a young child, the bigger person will try to not find themselves in potentially embarrassing moments with children. Let’s face it; even the parents will be mortified with this one as well.
6) Fear of a Wardrobe Malfunction – This is the fear of forgetting a belt or splitting your only pants.
To avoid the shame of a wardrobe malfunction, especially while traveling for business or pleasure, a bigger person will pack additional items like; belts, pants, shorts, and etc. in the off-chance they malfunction. Unlike a smaller person, a bigger person cannot just venture to the closest department store and pick-up a new item.

As of the posting of this blog, I have lost 148 lbs.
